Syarahan
The terawih at masjid muttaqin juz now was led by Ustaz Ahmad Dhari and he gave a short syarahan after that. Juz wanna share some pointers he raised on 'perkara2 yang membatalkan pahala puasa mu'
Firstly, puasa is to train you to be truthful. By lying or 'berdusta', your pahala puasa will become void. In his words, 'Jujur, akur dan syukur akan membawa kemakmuran'
Secondly, fasting allows you to rid yourself of PHD. haha Perasaan Hasad Dengki. This feeling of ridiculing others or trying to find ways to make sure they fail is very unhealthy. "ia memendekkan umur, kerana asik memikirkan hal2 org lain dan juga memendekkan rezeki"
Thirdly, fasting as a form of reflection. All human beings are not perfect. You have to reflect on ur weaknesses and misdeeds and aim to improve or correct them. You should not be bothered with the weaknesses of others and commenting upon them without having first reflecting on yourself.
Fourth, avoid sumpah palsu or false promises. For example, do not do your ibadah for the sake of what you want others to see. You fast, pray, zakat for Allah SWT, and for that reason only.
Fifth, a very common doing that 'membatalkan puasa' is 'melihat sesuatu yg amat menghairahkan' haha dis is kinda apparent wen u see food during the day, you drool and buy more than necessary for buka, just to fulfill your 'desire'. =p
OK anyway...ive been kinda slacking this past week. of coz i did do some studying but yeah....more rest than work hahhaa welll....it is the break week after all..and its the 1st week of ramadhan hehe it realli hasnt been eventful dis past week....the library gang seem to be getting smaller as the days go by. Not blaming anyone coz everyone got their own stuff to do and its realli tough to ensure that everyone will be there at central lib level 5 indefinitely :p but i realli hope 2 go on a raya outing wif u guys! ahh well...we will provide leeway for u pple's other halves hahahahaa
lots of iftars coming up....PBM, MS, K2p, Silat, my NS bunk mates, AMK, NY Kambingz....hehe hope i can spare the time for my frenz even with all the tests and project due dates coming up =)

BGR

Had another 'heart-to-heart' session wif hakim ahakz...dis time the topic was on BGR =p hakim asked this question....
Can you marry someone who is not your boyfriend/girlfriend but whom ure emotionally close to? I guess most would find it abit strange...because it juz isnt the norm. Its said to be normal to be in a relationship with someone...den 'tunang' (in the malay context) and then proceed to marriage.
Perhaps, this notion of boy-girl relationship has become so entrenched in our psyche dat we fail to notice that there are other ways to approach marriage. People argue that BGR is a testing stage, or an experimental platform to see whether he or she is the right one for you. However, this in itself is probably a preconceived concept dat has been internalised together with BGR as a cross cultural phenomenon.
There are many cases around the world where arranged marriages have succeeded even more than marriages that stem from BGRs. Even in some parts of the world where women are abused by their husbands, yet they still fulfill their duty as a wife contributes to the fact that marriage as an institution is still strong.
In the experience of BGR...we face problems and wen we cant solve dem...we break up. When infidelity occurs, we break up. When we see that there is no hope or future in the relationship, we break up. this is kinda synonymous with marriage and divorces. so...is bgr really important? who noes hehehe

The Passing of Life
This past week actually made me think abt the fragility of life...where dunia is sementara and God can take ur life wen the time comes. 2 of my frens' dads passed away and its very saddening and shocking. i feel so helpless in times like dis. today's events realli made me admire mukmin...the rituals and protocol dat he had 2 perform. i doubt dat i cld even do half of the things he had 2 do today..
our fellow k2p member and chief justice...we will be behind u =) insya Allah.

mY eXpEdition...
yesterday was such a kental day hahaha mcm hari bodoh gitu =p in the morning, i woke up late as usual...supposed 2 be in sch @ 9am for silat IVP meeting but i woke up like at 8 haha den like hav 2 rush 2 mandi and all. My mum den asked me...da nak kluar??? And i said yea ade silat meeting den petang ade bola. So she said 'Dah lagi bz than a president...balik malam, pagi bgn teros keluar' hahaha
md noor pon ckp aku tak senonoh hahahaa pasal dtg lambat =p abg jas ngan kak ruby da sampai for the meeting and half the exco haven even reached yet haha so melayu....basically the meeting spelt out the roles and duties of those involved in the planning of IVP and im in marketing (means that if i dun get any money from sponsors, there wont be any IVP...so u all have 2 treat me well hehe) We had training after the meeting...and i was in charge...so i led the warm up and gave some exercises which i did as well...and pple complain la! stemek!!! padahal sikit ajer seh...and md noor blamed our friendly game loss due to my 'rigorous warm-up' rabakzzzz!!! tk aci seh....
our soccer match was full of kental moments hahaha such as the fact azmeer salin baju in the middle of the field haha to alfian's nonsense scolding pasal dier captain (padahal dtg lambat) and the numerous leg cramps pple suffered...including me hahaha ok so we lost...but im not gonna sae by how much...except dat we lost by a 'respectable scoreline'...we did score! a last minute goal by jamal...a K2P import haha
anyway...we all went 2 makan at haig road and then me, mukmin, azmeer and alfian went 2 expo for the COMEX 2006. da la kaki cramp...kene push thru the throngs of enthu shoppers..abeh jalan satu round...penat nak mampos...oh i bought an mp3 player (which lin said was sengket...rabak!!! haha) pastu time nak balik kan...everyone else was also rushing home. So the initial plan was 2 take train to tamp and take 969. Suddenly alfian came up wif a 'brilliant idea' to take 858 from changi airport pasal nanti 969 ramai org and kite kene tukar train kat tanah merah. Pemalas! haha da sampai changi...we found out that the 858 queue was so long la!!!! abis tu...858 came from T1 interchange and it was already full before it reached T2. Abeh someone said....'eh kite naik sky train la gi T1...bole duduk'
at that moment, bus 53 came by and we saw dat it was empty...so we decided to take it so dat bole duduk! abeh alfian tanye nyonya bus driver brape lame gi bishan? mampos....hahaha but den, we dropped off at pasir ris to take 39. by the time i reached home...it took a whole 2 hrs from expo hahaha...all for the fact dat kite nak duduk dlm bus...tak leh angts! =p

Standing Tall in a Shrinking World

juz wanna share abt the Kent Ridge Ministerial Forum that i attended juz now. Dr Ng Eng Hen was invited to speak to us about how we, as NUS undergraduates can differentiate ourselves in a global economy. He used the SWOT analysis to describe the chances that we stand in this competitive environment :) feel free to disagree hehehe
Strengths
NUS graduates hold a respected degree which comes wif an 'international brand'. Potential employers recognize NUS graduates to have intellectual vigour, honesty, loyalty and who are bilingual and are adaptable to cultures. This 'market premium' would ensure a good stead in the job market.
Weaknesses
Several weaknesses of NUS graduates were identified. Most were less adept in handling pple (manage groups), less able to understand fuzzy ideas and are particular about overseas postings (due to the fear of dislocation, uncertainty, children education etc). NUS graduates are also perceived to be unwilling to learn practical experience. NUS graduates must learn to be SERVICE ORIENTED. Dont get me wrong...NUS students can score high marks in exams =)
Opportunities
Dr Ng explained that with the development of an ASEAN community by 2015, the market reach and potential opportunities would vastly expand. Dis, coupled with the booming China and Indian markets, there will be a continued growth of opportunities in the different sectors/areas of production and services. NUS graduates can get global positions within recognized MNCs and medium enterprises. Hence this access to the new market will definitely boost our chances of getting jobs...if we have the right attitude to embrace these challenges
Threats
It cannot be denied that the threats of terrorism and national/regional security will have and impact on the job market and the economy as a whole. On an individual level, there will be increased competition between spore graduates and even foreigners. It is estimated that 1/2 of the birth cohort will attain degrees (public/private/overseas) due to affordability and easier access. With the degree being commoditized, it is of paramount importance that we differentiate ourselves with other qualifications to stand out in this saturated market. Dream Big and Act on Them!!!
Ok...juz share wad harun (budak k2p!!!!) asked Dr Ng...Harun mentioned that talking about the chances of undergraduates is enriching. Undergraduates can be classified as those within the middle and upper levels in the hierarchy of society. However, with the implementation of the new immigration policy, then there would be a tendency to focus on this two levels and chips wiyld be stacked against the lower base of the societal pyramid in which the general population lies. They will be at a disadvantaged because of the foreign import which boost either the best brains or the cheapest labour.
He replied by saying that Spore's stand on an open door policy is to ensure the economy keeps growing. He mentioned that it is inevitable that a particular strata will be subjected to the pressures of globalization. It is on the onus of the goverbment to redistribute wealth, maintain balance and emphasize the commitment of the people.
Utilitarian concept perhaps? (towards the greatest good for the greatest number)
