Hey Good Looking!
I wouldnt have watched the Arena if not for reading Maly's blog :p Its really funky and unique, compared to traditional debates where speakers face off in the arena and each have a rebuttal bank to rebut opposition points. Im really impressed by the two schools...coz they showed lotsa depth and breadth, brot up points i've thot abt and fieriness/spirit of competition.
So...Hey Good Looking! Good Looks Triumph over Effort.
Both schools brought up points in the entertainment industry, media, ecomomy, sports etc there was quite a lot of emphasis on good looking pple such as David Beckham, Anna Kournikova, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts. Proposition kept banking on the fact that good looks provided the advantage pple need to taste success. First impression counts and being good looking provides that inborn key to opportunities. The opposition on the other hand accept the fact that good looks are indeed an advantage but described that good looks are just short term and in the long run, pure effort is the one that counts in any industry, any aspect of life. One point dat really caught my attention was dat the stereotype attached to good looks. How pple often stereotype dat pple wif good looks juz get to the top based on their good looks, having good looks becomes more of a hindrance rather than a blessing coz u then have to work doubly hard to prove dat u are up there coz of who you are and what u have achieved.
I guess the best combination would be to have the best of both worlds - the natural blessing of looks and the acceptance of effort as a tool of success :)
