Budaya Camp

Had a meeting with faatihah nye tuition agency nye person in charge for a briefing of the cultural camp for unity primary nez monday. Well, the whole session realli was kinda a blur...i was nodding my head for the sake of it haha but i did get the gist of what he was trying to say. He is a motivational instructor and i have no qualms abt his capability and his success with students, making dem WANT to study and achieve success.
But there were several things that struck a cord. He was mentioning about Malay parents/adults have dis mentality that as long as Malay teens join dikir, silat, tarian, kompang, gendang....it is at least better than if these kids get involved in bende2 tak senonoh. He was challenging dis convenient excuse by saying why dikir/silat and not bahas/public speaking skills etc?
I remember during PSK 2006 wen the president of persisi was speaking at the opening ceremony that he is heartened to see the growing interest in silat and that it is better to see these kids doing silat rather than get influenced by 'unsur2 or gejala yang kurang baik'. So i ask u, is it a convenient excuse? I say....being in silat/dikir does not mean dey dun get influenced by bende2 tak baik...coz u meet all kinds of pple in silat and dikir and kompang and tarian. Some may have gotten into trouble with the law, some come from poor background, some are in gangs, some smoke/drink but there are others who are uni grads, alim and so forth. I say that what all these pple who choose to be part of budaya melayu share a passion and that is something u cant take away from them...yes, public speaking skills are important too, but being part of a colourful budaya is something to be proud of too :)
another thing he mentioned...he said he set up a fund to help poor families, pasal its time to give back to community. I applaud his commitment to the malay cause. But if u take a step back...everyone seems to be helping. U name it...education trust fund by jamiyah, mendaki issue of scholarships and loans, individuals setting up their own funds....so if so many are helping, who gets the money? y are there still so many out there who needs our help? Sorri for the negative tone, but it is the reality of the state of our community...
but it does seem interesting dis camp...so i wanna see how much i can impart on these p4 kids...im not dat fantastic with kids....but we shall see :)
