The Art of Giving
I think today's experience at Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's home was an enriching one. No doubt i tink i almost lost my voice or feel super duper tired chasing the kids ard! Me, ibrahim, zola and shaza were there to conduct a silat workshop...but halfway into the whole programme, our 'music room' (the place where we were 'teaching' silat) became a childcare centre! one corner, some kids were playing monopoly, another side playing skipping ropes, some who were learning regu and some other boys who diden wan 2 go for cooking, but wanted 2 learn more silat stuff from us! haha it was soooooooo penat to layan dorang, pick dem away from beating each other up, listen 2 their screams, asking dem to stop jumping and climbing ard, getting kicked and punched and most importantly, trying to get their attention. But i do realize that the environment they grow up in is gonna make dem realli tough. They use expletives like nobody's business and fight each other. It is realli true dat the family IS the basic unit of socialization. I felt really sad for dem, and i do wish dat our presence had an impact on dem someway or another...silat was to teach dem self-confidence, not get bullied by others and humility :)
